Review highlights
Based on 1,807 reviewsKafe Leopold is widely recognized for its elegant blend of European café charm and modern fine dining, situated in a prime Georgetown location. Reviews consistently highlight the attentive and warm service, often comparing it to Michelin-level standards. The menu appeals to a broad range of tastes, with standout dishes like mussels and frites, refined desserts such as Strawberry Fraisier and Sacher Torte, and thoughtfully executed European classics. While most guests praise the quality and consistency, some note changes to favored menu items, leading to mixed reactions. Overall, Kafe Leopold is celebrated for its sophisticated ambiance, reliable culinary execution, and exceptional hospitality, making it a favored destination for both brunch and dinner in Washington, DC.
Kafe Leopold is a standout in Georgetown. The location is perfect, and the interior strikes a balance between European café charm and polished design. It feels intentional without trying too hard. The service was phenomenal. Attentive, warm, and confident. I’m often left unimpressed by modern twists on old-world cuisine. Too many places chase novelty and lose the soul of the dish. Kafe Leopold pulls it off effortlessly. The spätzle and bratwurst with an over-easy egg was unexpected and outstanding. Rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The egg brought the entire plate together in a way that made me want another bite long after I finished. The quiche was clean and vibrant, with color and flavor that felt fresh rather than heavy. This is a must-go in Georgetown. I’ll absolutely return.
This is my second time coming to Kafe Leopold and it did not disappoint!! Previously, I stumbled upon this delicious brunch spot with some girlfriends, but today I found myself inside after a long shopping day. I ate l one of the largest portions of mussels + frites I’ve ever had, followed by a perfectly brewed coffee and a small dessert to go. Whether you are coming for breakfast, lunch, or dinner the food here is positively divine. Moreover, the price of the food is a steal after considering quality and portion size. It seems hard these days to find fresh food at a good price, so Kafe Leopold is a must when shopping on M street! I recommend the sea bass, any salad, or the mussels
Kafe Leopold is one of those rare places that is consistently excellent across the board. The location, service, and food are all outstanding. I have tried much of the menu over time, and it has never disappointed. The desserts are exceptional. The Strawberry Fraisier is light, elegant, and perfectly balanced, and the Sacher Torte is a classic done right: rich, refined, and deeply satisfying. The savory offerings are just as strong. The tea sandwiches are excellent and thoughtfully prepared, making them ideal for a relaxed lunch or afternoon break. I especially enjoy the pear salad and the watermelon feta salad, both fresh and well balanced. Their charcuterie-style shareable board is also fantastic and perfect for lingering with friends. A special mention for the French Cosmo, which is absolutely delicious and dangerously easy to enjoy. Service is always warm and polished, and the setting feels like a little European escape tucked into DC. This is a place you can return to again and again with complete confidence. A true gem and very much deserving of its reputation.
Truly amazing place! Would come back here again, upset that I only found it now after having lived in Georgetown for 4 months. Atef was an absolute joy, one of the best waiters I've ever had! Service is comparable to Michelin restaurants. Would recommend the asparagus starter, truly Michelin level (splurge on the egg, it's worth it!)
This place used to be a go-to brunch spot when I lived in Georgetown; however, a lot changed since then. My favorite menu, egg in a cup, is replaced with egg on baguette. I was already disappointed there. Avocado toast and poached eggs tasted as expected but nothing extraordinary. Ham and cheese croissant was pretty good. We also ordered lemon pancake, which was the best out of all we ordered today. Lemon pancake was soft but chewy with right balance of lemon hint that stimulated appetite. It was good enough to eat without any butter, syrup, or jam. I tried it with syrup but then it became too sweet. I would recommend that to anyone to give it a try. Overall, still decent option for weekend brunch and enjoy DC/Georgetown vibe.
Great atmosphere and friendly service, but the food is hit or miss. The avocado toast was not good at all, but the coffee and Napoleon were really nice.
We have always enjoyed brunch at Kafe Leopold and were very impressed with the food and service at dinner tonight. Mussels made for an outstanding appetizer for the table. Veal Schnitzel topped with arugula came in a huge portion, enough for two. The special swordfish entries was cooked to perfection, succulent and tasty. Our server, Item, was attentive and took great care with the kitchen to handle a gluten allergy for one diner.
We've been fans for a long time. The last couple of times (including today, summer solstice), my husband and I enjoyed the very juicy, tasty grilled chicken with an ample side salad of greens and toasted walnuts in a light vinaigrette. We shared the roasted fingerling potatoes. We skipped dessert even though they serve a few of our favorites anywhere in DC. Sometimes we get a side of spinach. Lex was our friendly server on his 1st night. We had enough time to chat - he's a man with a fascinating background and an easy laugh. Sit outside if the weather's good, inside is fine, too. Leopold is tucked back from busy M street so it's always more relaxing than much of Georgetown.
